Explorations In A New City I'll Soon Call Home: Part Two

I shared a little about my trip to Denver here, but there's so much more to talk about!

Josh and I took his son Joey to the zoo on Monday. We had such a great time! Unfortunately, I didn't once take out my camera... I think I was too busy enjoying the wonderful weather and watching Joey run around. He's an awesome kid. A lot of the animals had been put away (due to the cold, I suppose), but it was such a nice walk around and we had such a pleasant time.

Tuesday was all about where to live. I've been doing a lot of looking online, making phone calls, sending e-mails, but I haven't had too much luck. I checked a lot of options on Craigslist, looking for a roommate deal, but it was so hard to do long-distance that nothing really worked out. I called nearly every apartment complex within my price range and the availability is basically non-existent right now! So, Josh and I went driving around and wow! We found so many places we had not seen online. I can't even begin to tell you how many apartments we visited and called. I did find a good apartment though that I'll probably be trying to get dibs on. There are still some others I want to call on and check out, but I found one particular one that I really like, that fits my price range, and is available less than a month after I move. Josh's family has been kind enough to offer me a room in their house until I can get my own place. Thanks for awesome friends!

After hours of getting in and out and talking to landlords, we decided to have a little fun and go downtown. He took me to a place called Confluence Park, and let me tell you, I was blown away! It's so gorgeous! I'm not used to snow, and everything was covered in a thick sheet of white and was absolutely brilliant!

I finally got a photo with a friend. Took long enough, right? This was a hard picture to get though because we were standing on a bridge and it was so bright and windy I couldn't see! Turned out pretty good though.

A little further outside the park was a bridge over the railroad tracks and I thought it was absolutely amazing. I loved it, and I think it was probably my favorite part of the park/downtown area we went to. We both took a good amount of photos from there. We shot mostly with our Holgas, but neither of us have gotten the film developed yet. I've had my Holga for almost a year and I have three rolls of film I've shot, and I haven't gotten any of them developed! I am horrible... I can't wait to see them though!

Wednesday was Josh's birthday so we hung out at his place most of the day. I was happy to be around for his birthday. I got to play with Joey a lot, so I thoroughly enjoyed myself. His wife cooked a very nice dinner and a gluten-free cake so I could have some too (how nice!). It was a relaxing day of watching movies and Josh doing some things to my computer. Unfortunately, that led to me not having CS5 on my computer anymore, but we're going to fix that. I'm dying without it right now...I miss it!

Coming home was wonderful, but it was sad and tiring too. I spent most of Thursday heading home (except for that morning, when Josh and I managed to purchase a $5 couch and get it in the basement somehow). It was so wonderful to come home and see Winnie! When I move, I will definitely be missing her the most. We're going to have to come up with some creative ways to stay in touch frequently. I know we will be using Skype, but she and I color together a lot, and that's something I wish we could keep up. Maybe I can come up with something.

I'll miss that darling, and I'll miss the rest of my family too, but I'm looking forward to what lies ahead in this new place for me. I'm so lucky to already have a few close friends there (though I was only able to spend time with one of them during my visit), and it's going to be a high priority for me to come home often to see everyone, though often may not be as often as I'd like, or as often as they would like.

  2. Moving is always hard, but super fun! I absolutely love LA and I'm so happy I decided to move here from Michigan. I'm sure you'll enjoy Denver -- I've heard so many good things about it. That photo of the traintracks is breathtaking! Good luck with the rest of your move, and please let me know if you need any advice! Oh, by the way -- I can't believe how many apartments you found that weren't online! Who knew!?

    1. Thank you! I think I'm going to love it!

And yeah, I was surprised to find so many other apartments too, with everything being online these days. Next time I think I'll take a ride around first...
